VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -
Amadou Ba won gold in the 800m and helped the 4x400m Relay to a silver medal as the Coppin State men's track & field team placed fifth with 60 points at the MEAC Indoor Track & Field Championships held at the Virginia Beach Sports Center.
A junior from Nouakchott, Mauritania, Ba took 800m MEAC crown in 1:54.14, just ahead of teammate
Randy Serville who captured the bronze in 1:55.68. The duo also combined with
Joseph Manu and
Jayeed Norbal in the 4x400m Relay which finished second in a season-best 3:13.65.
Manu also took second place in the 60m dash, finishing in 6.71 and third in the 200m dash with a personal-record time of 21.08.
Balvin Richards placed fourth in the shot put with an indoor personal record of 15.37m (50.5'25").
Mauriel Carty also scored points for the Eagles on Wednesday, placing seventh in the 200m (21.89). Norbal (2:01.63) and
Ivan Wiggins (2:01.99) also competed in the men's 800m and clocked nearly identical times in different heats while
Amiri Goode finished his 400m heat in 53.71.
The NCAA National Championships are set for March 11-12 and the Eagles will seek qualification in numerous events at selected Last Chance Meets over the next couple days.
