WASHINGTON, D.C. – Originally scheduled to open the season next weekend, Coppin State's softball team will play a single game against Big 12 member Iowa State at 12 pm on Monday, February 21 as the Cyclones will be in our Nation's Capital over the weekend. The game will be played at the Washington Nationals Youth Academy.
The Eagles, who were picked to finish sixth in the MEAC Preseason Poll, will be led by 2021 All-MEAC performers
Brissa Alvarado and
Vanessa Carrizosa. Both Alvarado and Carrizosa earned 2022 Preseason All-Conference honors, as did
Isabella Zalba and
Desiree Carrizosa.
Iowa State is already 6-1 on the season, with victories over Omaha, Nebraska, South Dakota State, Northern Iowa, Quinnipiac and Howard. The Cyclones advanced to the NCAA Regionals last season, finishing with a 34-23 overall record.
Following the game against ISU, Coppin will take part in the UMBC Round Robin on February 26-27 where it'll take on both the host Retrievers and Georgetown in back-to-back days.
