VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Coppin State's men's & women's track & field teams will compete at the 2022 MEAC Indoor Track & Field Championships on February 21-23, held at the Virginia Beach Sports Center. This will be the first MEAC indoor championship since 2020; there was no indoor meet in 2021 after several programs opted out of the indoor season due to COVID-19.

Competition will get underway on Monday at 2 p.m. with the start of the men's heptathlon. Day one will also see the MEAC hand out its first medals of the three-day event, crowning champions in the men's and women's long jump and 5,000-meter runs.
The men's heptathlon will wrap up at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, and the women's heptathlon will get underway at 9:20 a.m. Running events will start with the women's 60-meter hurdle preliminary heats at 12 p.m., and Tuesday's action will wrap up with the women's and men's distance medley races.
Wednesday's action will kick off at 9:30 a.m. with the women's pole vault. Running events will get underway at 12:30 p.m. with the women's mile run.

Eagles in the Rankings
Latifa Ali leads the Eagles within the MEAC on the women's side as she ranks first in the 60m (7.43), second in the 400 (54.55) and third in the 200 (23.88). She is one of three CSU athletes ranked in the top ten in the 400m with
Kimani Alphonse in fourth (55.30), just ahead of
Shenelle Tomlinson in fifth (55.55).
Jahmei Wyatt and
Kamillah Monroque take the top two spots in the 800m within the conference in times of 2:13.16 and 2:13.26, respectively, while
Salomay Agyei ranks fifth (2:19.79), followed by
Claudina Constantine in eighth (2:22.60). Monroque places third in the Mile at 5:18.23, as does
Kaelyn Woodrum in the Pentathlon with
Olivia Wright taking sixth in the multis.
Saidai Stuteley will be a threat to score in the 3,000m as she ranks eighth at 11:45.87. Woodrum also ranks tenth in the 60m hurdles, just ahead of
Erin Palmer. Woodrum and Wright also sit tenth in the long jump and high jump, respectively.

Eagles in the Rankings
Joseph Manu (60m | 6.66),
Abayie Opuni (400m | 47.30),
Amadou Ba (800m | 1:51.70) and
Jeff Hammond (long jump | 25-1.25) all lead the MEAC in their respective events with several Eagles ranked within the top ten in the conference. Manu and Opuni sit in fifth and seventh place in the 200m dash in times of 21.37 and 21.68, respectively, while
Randy Serville places second in the 800m (1:53.85) and sixth in the 400m (48.68). Ba is also one of the top Milers in the conference, ranking sixth at 4:24.80 entering the Championship.
Balvin Richards is currently ranked seventh in the MEAC in the shot put (47-3").
Nationally, Manu ranks 35
th in the 60m dash, just .04 off the final qualifying spot currently. Hammond sits 29
th in the long jump, just off the National qualifiers by 3.50 inches.
