Men’s Hoops Welcomes South Carolina State on Homecoming; N.C. Central on ESPNU Monday Night

BALTIMORE – Coppin State's men's basketball team enters a pivotal weekend and hosts South Carolina State for Homecoming on Saturday, February 12 at 4 pm.  Fans can watch on NXT LVL or listen in at WNST 1570AM.  Two night's later, the Eagles will be on national television on ESPNU when they welcome North Carolina Central to PEC Arena at 7 pm on Valentine's Day.

Coppin fell just short at N.C. Central, 69-68, on February 5 despite a double-double 17 points and 12 rebounds from Tyree CorbettNendah Tarke added 13 points, eight rebounds and three steals while Kyle Cardaci and Justin Steers pitched in 12 points apiece.  Steers also dished out a game-high six assists. Alex Rojas and Mike Hood chipped in with eight and six points, respectively. 
 
Coppin Contributors
Jesse Zarzuela and Tyree Corbett sit fourth and fifth in the MEAC in scoring at 14.6 and 14.5 points, respectively, while Nendah Tarke is just behind in seventh at 13.1 points.  Corbett leads the league at 9.7 rebounds and double doubles (11) with Tarke sitting third at 6.6 rebounds.  Tarke is also second nationally in steals with 67, averaging out to 3.05 per game.  Kyle Cardaci and Mike Hood are also major threats to score the basketball, tallying nearly seven points each per game. Greg Spurlock and Alex Rojas have seen significant increases in playing time as of late with Justin Steers, Daniel Titus, Sita Conteh and Isaiah Gross also contributing.

N.C. Central features three players from the DMV in seniors Nicolas Fennell (Bowie, Md.)and Randy Miller (Odenton, Md.) while freshman Timmy Adedire is from the Charm City.
 
Scouting South Carolina State
The Bulldogs are one of the top rebounding teams in the Nation with 42.3 rebounds per game and outrebounding their opponents by 5.6 per game.  TJ Madlock and Cameron Jones are the top scorers at 12 and 11 points per game, respectively, but eight others average at least six points for a well-balanced offense.  Jemal Davis and Omar Croskey average close to nine points apiece. With Madlock and Rahsaan Edwards acting as primary ball-handlers, Deaquan Williams and Edward Oliver-Hampton both average six rebounds per game.
 
About N.C. Central
Randy Miller and Justin Wright average well over double figures in scoring while Kris Monroe, Dontavious King and Eric Boone being major threats offensively, averaging between eight and ten points per game. Monroe and King are also the team's top rebounders at nearly six rebounds per game with Boone dished out nearly four assists per game.
