Bowling to Open 2022 Season at Bud Whitman Memorial This Weekend

NEW CASTLE, Del. – Coppin State's bowling team is set to open the 2022 season on October 8-9 at the Bud Whitman Memorial, hosted by Chestnut Hill College at Bowlerama.  The Eagles will face teams from Mount St. Mary's, Holy Family, Alvernia, Wilmington, Pitt.-Greenburg, Molloy, Bryant, Kutztown and the host Griffins.
 
Matches will start at 11:00 am on Saturday, followed by 9:00 am on Sunday.  All matches will be streamed live on www.facebook.com/coppinsports
 
Picked seventh in the MEAC Preseason Poll earlier this week, Coppin returns its entire roster from last season where it posted it highest winning percentage in school-history. Leading the charge are junior Logan Brown, along with sophomore TaVera Johnson and graduate student Kaylah Castillo.
 
Brown led CSU with a 186.62 average in traditional matches last season, posting a team-high 14 matches with at least a 200 which included a 244. Johnson was second to Brown with a 177.74 average and eight 200+ games while Castillo accumulated a 173.21 average.
 
Also, back for the Eagles are sophomores Temira White and Jalyne Myers while head coach Shaunita Middleton brought in junior transfer Janaye Monroe (Bowie, Md./Belmont Abbey) and freshmen Xiani Carpenter (Bowie, Md./Bowie HS) and Elizabeth Stokley (Elizabeth City, N.J./ECP Early College).
 
Following this weekend's tournament, CSU is back in action on October 15-16 at the Mount St. Mary's Shootout.  Coppin's Lady Eagles Invitational is scheduled for November 19-20 at AMF Woodlawn Lanes in Baltimore.
