NORFOLK, Va. – Coppin State's
Jeff Hammond was named the MEAC Men's Track & Field Athlete of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Wednesday afternoon. This is the first weekly award that Hammond has received in his career.
A junior from Kumasi, Ghana, Hammond took gold in the long jump at the Carolina Challenge with a MEAC-best of 7.65 meters (25 feet, 1.25 inches). Hammond's mark, which ranks 14
th in the Nation, broke a 12-year-old school-record, held by Brandon Miles by nearly ten inches.
Hammond also finished fourth overall in the 60m dash with a time of 6.97.
The Eagles return to the track on Saturday, February 5 for the East Coast Invitational held at the Virginia Beach Sports Center.
