NEW YORK, NY – Joseph Manu won the 60M Dash and
Jeff Hammond took gold in the long jump as Coppin State's Men track & field team opened its season at the HBCU Showcase at New York Armory on Saturday Afternoon.
Manu was victorious in the short sprint with a time of 6.73 which is the top time in the MEAC this season. Hammond also qualified for the final in the event with a preliminary time of 6.98 but did not run in the final as he won the jump with a leap of 24' 1."
The duo also made up half of the Eagles' 4x400m Relay to wrap up the day. Accompanied by
Amadou Ba and
Randy Serville, Coppin took second overall in 3:20.26.
Serville and Ba also impressed in their open events with a pair of third place finishes. Serville earned the bronze in the 400m dash in 50.07 while Ba clocked a 4:33.45 in the Mile.
A pair of Eagles earned points in the 800m Run as well, with
Ivan Wiggins placing sixth in 2:08.33, followed shortly after by
Amiri Goode in 2:10.75.
Jervonne Agard also ranked 9th 200m in 22.94 while
Bryce Pepukayi made his CSU debut in the 60m dash (7.35).
Coppin returns to the track for the USC Indoor Open in South Carolina on January 22.
