Coppin State Graduate Joseph Amoah Qualifies for 200m Semifinals at Tokyo Olympics

TOKYO – Coppin State  University graduate Joseph Amoah, who is representing his native Ghana, automatically advanced to the semifinals of the 200m dash at the 2020 Olympic Games by placing third in his heat in a time of 20.35.  His mark was the eighth-fastest time among all competitors in the First Round.
 
The semifinals of the 200m dash will be televised live on Peacock at 7:50 am Eastern Time on Tuesday, August 3.
 
An eight-time NCAA All-American and back-to-back USTFCCCA Mid-Atlantic Region Athlete of the Year with the Eagles, Amoah trailed the 2019 World Champion Noah Lyles (20.18) and Sibusiso Matsenjwa (20.34) in his heat.
 
Kenny Bednarek of the United States ran the round's fastest time of 20.01, followed by the Dominican Republic's Yancarlos Martinez (20.17) and Lyles.
