GREENSBORO, N.C. – A shorthanded Coppin State's men's track & field team scored 29 points to finish in eighth place at the MEAC Championships this weekend at Irwin Belk Track on the campus of North Carolina A&T. The host Aggies won the meet for the fourth-straight season.
The Eagles medaled in both relays, taking third in the 4x100m Relay as
Malik John,
Abayie Opuni,
Aaron Lewis and
Mauriel Carty finished with a time of 40.91. Closing out the championship, John and Opuni were joined in the 4x400m Relay by
Randy Serville and
Amadou Ba to finish second overall in 3:09.66.
John was the lone CSU athlete to place in the top five of an individual event, taking fifth in the 100m dash in 10.56. He was also the Eagles' top performer in the 200m (21.70) while Carty also doubled up with times of 11.55 and 22.29.
Opuni and Serville both took sixth in their respective events as Opuni finished the 400m in 48.45 and Serville covered the 800m in 1:54.42. Finishing just behind Serville in the 800m was Ba, who placed seventh in 1:56.89 after he finished eighth in the 1,500m (4:11.29) earlier in the day.
Also scoring for the Eagles was
Amiri Goode in the 400m hurdles (7
th; 58.51) while
Aaron Lewis just missed the finals in the 110m hurdles (15.48).
