Amoah Runs Nation’s Fastest Time in 100m Dash as Men’s Track Competes at Aggie Invitational

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Coppin State's Joseph Amoah ran the fastest time in the Nation as he won the 100m dash in a school-record 10.00 at the Aggie Invitational on Saturday afternoon at North Carolina A&T's Irwin Belk Track.
 
A senior from Greater Accra, Ghana, Amoah also won the 200m dash in 20.36, the seventh-fastest time in the NCAA, and led the 4x100m Relay to gold in 39.83.  Amoah was joined on the relay by Malik John, Abayie Opuni and Joseph Manu.
 
Manu, who is also a Ghana native, clocked a personal-best time in the 100m dash of 10.28 to finish third overall, and took 12th in the 200m dash (21.22).  John finished just ahead of Manu in the 200m dash in 21.16 and finished the 100m dash in a personal-best 10.57.  Opuni competed in the 400m dash and finished seventh in 47.39.
 
Also, in the short sprints, Mauriel Carty continued to upward progression, clocking a personal-best 21.72 in the 200m dash.
 
Amadou Ba shaved nearly two seconds off his personal record in the 800m Run, taking third in 1:51.99.  He was followed in the event by Randy Serville (1:56.41) and Cheyenne Johnson (1:57.50).
 
In the 110m hurdles, Aaron Lewis was the fifth-fastest qualifier in 14.30 while Ivan Wiggins-Ingram and Amiri Goode finished the 400m hurdles in times of 56.98 and 57.21, respectively.
 
Earlier in the week, Coppin sent several athletes to the Delaware State Sting Meet with Johnson leading the way with a victory in the 400m hurdles (54.26), followed by Wiggins-Ingram in 57.15 and Goode (58.90). Results were not public until Friday evening.
 
Balvin Richards took second in the discus (131-8) and third in the shot put (42-7) to lead CSU in the field events.
 
Lewis and Serville medaled in their respective events as Lewis took silver in the 110m hurdles (14.36) while Serville earned bronze in the 1,500m Run (4:27.83).
 
Ba also finished fourth in the 400m dash in 50.12 while Eryk Goode placed seventh in the 800m (2:27.26).
 
The Eagles will return to Greensboro for the Aggie Classic on April 24.
