NORFOLK, Va. – Coppin State's
Nia Bowe has been named the MEAC Softball Player of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon. This is the first weekly award for Bowe this season and the first time that she has been selected as Player of the Week after earning six Rookie of the Week awards as a freshman in 2018.
A junior from Milford, Del., Bowe hit .583, going 14-for-24 with six runs scored, two home runs, two doubles and eight RBI in six games last week. Bowe currently leads the MEAC with a .429 batting average and ranks third in slugging percentage (.619).
Bowe opened the week with three hits in seven plate appearances in a doubleheader at Mount St. Mary's, recording a pair of doubles in the opening game. She followed that up by going 11-for-17 in a four game MEAC series at Delaware State.
In Saturday's doubleheader, Bowe went 3-for-4 with two RBI in a game one victory before going a perfect 4-for-4 with two home runs and five RBI in the nightcap. Bowe added another three hits and an RBI in game one on Sunday before adding another hit and a run scored in game two.
The Eagles return to action on Wednesday, March 31 when it travels to Towson for a 2 pm doubleheader.
