NOFORLK, Va. – Jesse Zarzuela and
Tyree Corbett from the Coppin State Men's basketball team earned MEAC weekly awards. It was announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon.
Zarzuela earned Men's Basketball Player of the Week, while Corbett was named MEAC Defensive Player of the Week, respectively.
A redshirt sophomore from Houston, Texas, Zarzuela averaged 26.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.0 steals in the Eagles' games versus St. Bonaventure and Cornell. He shot 47.5 percent from the floor, 40.9 percent from 3-point range and 83.3 percent from the free throw line.
For the second time this season, Corbett was named Defensive Player after averaging 11.0 rebounds and 20.0 points against St. Bonaventure and Cornell with double-doubles in both contests. The Philadelphia native had 12 rebounds to go along with 23 points against Cornell after garnering 10 rebounds with 17 points in the St. Bonaventure contest.
The Eagles are back in action tomorrow, December 8 taking on George Washington at the Charles E. Smith Center.
