Bowling Back in Action This Weekend at Virginia Union Invitational

GLEN ALLEN, Va. – Coppin State's bowling team returns to action this weekend for the Virginia Union Invitational, held at Bowl America Short Pump from October 29-31.  The Eagles are off to one of its best starts in program history, going 6-4 at the season opening Mount St. Mary's Shootout while placing three bowlers in the top ten.

Last Time Out
Coppin finished fourth of eight teams at the season-opening Mount St. Mary's Shootout on October 16-17, recording 8,119 total pins and a 162.4 average per game. Freshman TaVera Johnson earned All-Tournament Team honors by finishing fourth overall with 909 total pins and averaging 181.80 pins per game.  Johnson was later named the MEAC Rookie of the Week.
 
Logan Brown and Temira White also finished in the top ten in the individual standings, finishing sixth and eighth, respectively.  Brown averaged a 178.40 with a pair of 200-plus games while White accumulated a 174.80 average, including a 230 against Mount St. Mary's.
 
The Eagles recorded four-straight wins in traditional play on Saturday to open the Tournament, defeating Pitt.-Greensburg, Felician, Chestnut Hill and Howard before falling to the host Mountaineers.  On Sunday, CSU picked up victories over LaRoche and Pitt.-Greenburg but dropped back-to-back games against Felician.

CSU will be off next weekend before taking part in MEAC Meet #1 on November 13-14, hosted by Morgan State at AMF Woodlawn Lanes in Gwynn Oak, Md.
