Volleyball Falls at MEAC-Leading Delaware State

DOVER, Del. – Coppin State's volleyball team was swept by MEAC-leading Delaware State, 3-0 (25-14, 25-21, 25-20) on Sunday afternoon at Memorial Hall.  The Eagles fall to 10-9 overall with a 4-3 mark in conference play while the Hornets improve to 20-1 on the year with a perfect 8-0 in the MEAC.
 
Chudear Tut led Coppin with seven kills while Miajavon Coleman added six, followed by Paola Caten with four and both Ahzhi Coleman and Jordan Celestine with three apiece.  Andrea Tsvetanova recorded 13 assists while splitting time with Kareemah Hopkins who tallied eight assists.
 
Ashley Roman was credited with a match-high 15 digs and a pair of aces as Coppin was outhit .218 to .000 on the afternoon. The Hornets finished with 12 total blocks and eight service aces.
 
The Eagles came back from an early deficit in the opening set to take an 8-7 lead after kills by Caten and Tut followed by a DSU error. The Hornets then went on a 12-3 run to pull away and take the opener.
 
Coppin got out of the gate strong in the second but DSU rallied and took a 20-15 lead.  The Eagles answered with six-straight points which included back-to-back aces by Aislynn Weaver and kills from Tut and Miajavon Coleman. DSU closed the set with five-straight points with CSU trying to stop the momentum trailing, 23-21.
 
Delaware State led the third set from start to finish but Coppin put up a good fight with a 7-1 run midway through the set to pull within 15-14. The hosts scored six of the next seven points and did not look back.
 
The Eagles return to action on Friday, October 22 when they host South Carolina State in a 6 pm start.
