WAYNESBORO, Pa. – Logan Brown finished sixth overall and
Aushia McLean was just behind in seventh place to lead the Coppin State bowling team to a third-place finish at the Mount St. Mary's Shootout Traditional Tournament on Sunday afternoon at Sunshine Lanes.
Making her collegiate debut this weekend, Brown, a freshman from Waldorf, Md., averaged 187.8 pins over five games for a total of 939 pins. Brown rolled a high of 210 in the second match of the day, which came in a bye, while rolling a 190 to open the day and a 193 to close it. In the Eagles' victory over Delaware State in game three, its second win over the nationally ranked Hornets, Brown recorded a 180.
A graduate student from Poughkeepsie, N.Y., McLean averaged a 184.6 while accumulating 923 pins over five matches. McLean came up big for Coppin in matches two through four, recording a 201, 222 and 190 in those matches, respectively.
Kaylah Castillo also notched a top ten performance, placing tenth overall with a 180 average. Castillo's best match came in CSU's win over DSU with a 210.
Jazzleen McRae and
Sydney Tyler finished 12
th and 13
th, respectively, with averages of 168.4 and 165.6. McRae had a high game of 206 while Tyler's best performance came with a 180.
Coppin State returns to the lanes on January 30-31 as they host the CSU Lady Eagles Invitational at Bowl America in Glen Burnie. Saturday will feature traditional play, followed by baker matches on Sunday.
