WAYNESBORO, Pa. – Coppin State's bowling team opened the 2020-21 season with a 969-899 Baker match victory over 17
th-ranked Delaware State on Saturday afternoon at Sunshine Lanes. The Eagles finished the Baker Tournament of the Mount St. Mary's Shootout in third place behind the host Mountaineers (3-0) and the Hornets (1-2).
The Eagles opened their first match of the day with an impressive 252 in the first game, the top score for any school in any match on the day. CSU followed with a 208 before rolling a 191 in the fourth, all but assuring it a victory over the Hornets.
"The team came out on fire with that first game and didn't let up in the match," said head coach
Shaunita Middleton. "Sydney (Tyler) started out hot, converting strikes on her first seven baker frames."
Delaware State took the next Baker match from Coppin, 965-774, before the Eagles dropped back-to-back matches to 12
th-ranked Mount St. Mary's, 929-875 and 1,091-758. In its Bye match to close out the day, CSU finished with a 917.
Sydney Tyler led the team, averaging 18.3 pins per frame, followed by
Jazzleen McRae with an 18.04 average per frame.
Traditional matches are set for Sunday, January 24 at Sunshine Lanes.
