NORFOLK, Va. – Coppin State's
Anthony Tarke has been named the MEAC Men's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week while
Kenan Sarvan received MEAC Rookie of the Week honors, it was announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon. This is the fourth time in seven weeks that Tarke has received the Defensive Player of the Week and the second Rookie of the Week for Sarvan this season.
A redshirt senior from Gaithersburg, Md., Tarke led the Eagles to its second-straight win over Delaware State last Tuesday while tallying 11 rebounds to go with career-highs in steals (6) and blocks (5). Tarke also added 13 points and dished out eight assists to match a career-high.
Sarvan, a redshirt freshman from Heeze, Netherlands, scored 12 points on a career-high four 3-pointers, and grabbed six rebounds in Coppin's win against the Hornets on January 5. Previously earning the honor on December 1, Sarvan hit the game-winning 3-pointer with 28 seconds remaining in regulation.
The Eagles return to action on January 16-17 when they travel to face archrival Morgan State in back-to-back 2 pm tipoffs.
