Bowling Qualifies for First MEAC Tournament Since 2013-14 Season With 8th Place Finish at MEAC Meet #2

PENSACOLA, Fla. – Coppin State's bowling team has qualified for its first MEAC Tournament since the 2013-14 season as the Eagles picked up three victories at MEAC Meet #2 over the weekend at Cordova Lanes.  CSU finished eighth overall for the Tournament and now have a school-record 33 wins this season.
 
Coppin went 1-4 in five Baker matches on Friday with an upset victory over 22nd-ranked Monmouth, 866-800 to open the day. The Eagles then dropped their next four matches to Norfolk State, 8th-ranked North Carolina A&T, No. 18 Delaware State and Howard.
 
CSU opened and closed out traditional play on Saturday with wins, starting with a 745-716 victory over Bethune-Cookman to start the day.  They finished the afternoon by defeating Florida A&M, 848-814.  They were edged by Morgan State before rolling a 953 in a Bye and falling to 21st-ranked UAB.
 
On bracket style Sunday, the Eagles fell to UAB, 4-2 after rallying from a 3-0 deficit before dropping a 4-1 decision to Florida A&M.
 
Freshman Sydney Tyler led the Eagles with 896 pins over five matches to average 179.20.  Her total pinfall placed her 19th overall for the Tournament which included a high game of 215 in a Bye for the team.  Tyler followed that match with a 190 versus UAB.
 
Kaylah Castillo totaled 883 total pins in her five matches, good for a 176.60 average.  Castillo also saved her best performances for the third and fourth match, tallying a 182 in the team's Bye before bowling a 187 against the Blazer.
 
In four matches, Aushia McLean rolled a 175.50 average with a high of 206 in the team's first traditional match of the tournament against Bethune-Cookman.
 
Raja Anderson's best performance of the day also came in a Bye as the freshman from Stafford, Va., recorded a 184.  In three matches, Anderson averaged a 169.00.
 
Seniors Mya Hamlett and Nia Turner both had games of over 200 as Hamlett tallied a 210 against Florida A&M while Turner rolled a 200 in the team's Bye. 
 
Jazzleen McRae averaged a 124.33 in three matches.
 
On March 6-8, Coppin will head to Atlanta, Ga., to compete at the TNBA HBCU Invitational at Fun Time Bowl.
