LEXINGTON, Va. – Coppin State's
Joseph Amoah won the 60m dash at the VMI Indoor Classic in 6.78 to lead the Eagles men's track & field team this weekend in the team's final tuneup before the MEAC Championships.
A senior from Greater Accra, Ghana, Amoah qualified for the finals of the 60m dash with preliminary and semifinal times of 6.81 and 6.80, both of which were the second-fastest going into the final round on Saturday.
Malik John also turned in a second-place finish in the 200m dash with a time of 21.48. John also made it to the finals of the 60m dash and finished sixth in 6.97 after running a 6.93 in the semifinals.
In the 60m hurdles,
Aaron Lewis ran an 8.04 in each of his rounds and finished second overall.
Also recording a top five performance for Coppin State was
Abayie Opuni in the 400m dash (4
th; 48.59).
Randy Serville and
Cheyenne Johnson finished the 800m Run in times of 1:55.85 and 1:56.11, respectively, to finish sixth and seventh in the event.
Ivan Wiggins-Ingram was just behind the pair in 2:01.84.
Elsewhere on the track,
Muriel Carty took seventh in the 200m dash (22.06) while
Eryk Goode clocked a 1:10.67 in the 500m dash.
Nku Henry finished the 400m dash in 52.74.
Michael Scott led CSU in the field events with a seventh-place effort in the long jump (22-11) while
Yamoussa Sylla leaper 44' 1.5" in the triple jump.
CSU will compete at the MEAC Championships on February 27-29 at the Prince George's Sports & Learning Complex in Landover, Md.
