LANDOVER, Md. – Individual victories by
Malik John in the 60m dash and
Theodore Westcarr in the long jump highlighted the day for the Coppin State men's track team who finished third of 11 schools at the Terrapin Invitation on Saturday at the Prince George's Sports & Learning Complex. The Eagles scored 82 points on the day, ranking just ahead of the host Terrapins and behind squads from Delaware State and Johns Hopkins.
After cruising to a qualifying time in the preliminaries, John clocked a 6.93 in the 60m dash to win the event title with an IC4A/ECAC qualifying mark.
Aaron Lewis also scored key points in the vent with a fourth-place finish in 7.05.
Westcarr's leap of 22' 6.50" won the long jump with
Michael Scott finishing fourth with an effort of 21' 4.75."
A pair of Eagles medaled in the 600m dash as
Randy Serville and
Cheyenne Johnson took second and third, respectively in 1:23.42 and 1:23.67. The duo blew out their heat beating the next closest competitor by over four seconds.
Ivan Wiggins-Ingram also scored a point in the event, taking eighth in 1:25.67.
Wigginis-Ingram and Johnson also made up half of the 4x400m Relay that earned the silver to cap off the day in 3:26.13. Joining them on the relay were
Jervonne Agard and
Eryk Goode.
Balvin Richards was the other Eagles performer to medal on the day as the thrower took second in the shot put with a toss of 47' 11.25."
In his lone individual event of the day, Agard picked up key points with a fourth-place finish in the 400m dash (53.22), finishing just ahead of
Nku Henry in fifth (53.80). Henry also place fifth in the 200m dash (24.18).
Also scoring in individual events were Goode in the 800m (7
th, 2:06.85) and
Yamoussa Sylla in the triple jump (8
th, 42' 10.75").
Coppin State returns to the track on January 24-25 at the Rod McCravy Invitational hosted by the University of Kentucky.
