NEW ORLEANS – Coppin State's Joseph Amoah has been named the Mid-Atlantic Region's Track Athlete of the Year, it was announced by the United State Track & Field & Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Friday afternoon.  Each of the nine regions – Great Lakes, Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, Mountain, Northeast, South, South Central, Southeast and West – honored both gender's top track athletes and field athletes as well as the top men's and women's head coaches and assistant coaches.

A junior from Greater Accra, Ghana, Amoah is ranked 10th nationally in the 200m dash at 20.20 and 13th nationally in the 100m dash at 10.09, both of which are school-records. Amoah ran both times at the MEAC Championships and became the fastest Ghanian sprinter in the last 24 years, qualifying him for both the World Championships and 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Amoah earned his way in both events for the NCAA National Championships in Austin, Texas on June 5-8, and will also be a part of the 4x100m and 4x400m Relays that also qualified in school-record time at the NCAA East Prelims. Amoah clocked the fastest time in the 100m dash (10.10) while taking sixth in the 200m dash (20.24) at the East Preliminaries last weekend, and the Eagles are one of just ten schools that have both relays heading to Nationals.

Amoah will open the National Championships with four events on Wednesday, June 5, starting with the 4x100m Relay at 6:32 pm along with Keshaun Hodges, Theodore Westcarr and Joseph Manu.  Amoah is also scheduled to run the 100m dash at 7:46 pm, the 200m dash at 8:44 pm and the 4x400m Relay at 9:48 pm along with Abayie Opuni, Malik John and Anija Addison.
