Amoah and Both Men's Relays Punch Tickets to NCAA National Championship

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Coppin State's Joseph Amoah in the 200m dash and both the 4x100m and 4x400m Relays qualified for the NCAA National Track & Field Championships with their performances at the NCAA East Prelims on Saturday night at Hodges Stadium on the campus of University of North Florida.

The 4x100m Relay of Keshaun Hodges, Amoah, Theodore Westcarr and Joseph Manu started the day with a school-record time of 39.38, nearly beating out Florida in their heat. The Eagles recorded the sixth-best time of the day in the event.

Shortly after, Amoah took second in his heat of the 200m dash in 20.24 to automatically qualify for Nationals as well. The junior from Greater Accra, Ghana, had the fifth fastest time of the day and will also run in the 100m dash at the National Championships.

Closing out the incredible night was the 4x400m Relay of Abayie Opuni, Amoah, Malik John and Anija Addison. The combo shattered the old school-record with a blistering time of 3:06.58 to take ninth overall and third in their heat. This mark bested the old standard by .75 which stood for nine years.

Coppin State's seven athletes will compete for the National Championship on June 5-8 at Mike Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas.
