NORFOLK, Va. – Coppin State's
Brissa Alvarado has been named the MEAC Softball Rookie of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Monday night. This is the first weekly award of Alvarado's career.
A freshman from Rialto, Calif., Alvarado earned a victory in the circle while allowing just two runs on seven hits in 9.0 innings against Howard. Alvarado also had a solid week at the plate, going 4-for-8 with three RBI and a walk. This included a 2-for-3, two RBI effort against Mount St. Mary's before helping her own cause with an RBI in a the game two win over the Bison.
In conference play this season, Alvarado is 2-1 with a 3.09 ERA while holding batters to a .264 batting average. She is also hitting .262 with a pair of doubles and six RBI at the plate.
