BALTIMORE – Coppin State's men's track & field team won five event titles to finish third of 17 teams at the Morgan State Legacy Invitational this weekend
. Joseph Manu, Joseph Amoah and
Cheyenne Johnson all took individual events while both the 4x100m and 4x400m relays were victorious.
Manu took the 100m dash in 10.35 while Amoah clocked a 20.47 in the 200m dash with Johnson crossing the finish of the 400m hurdles in 55.04. Amoah also played a hand in the 4x100m Relay, along with Manu,
Abayie Opuni and
Theodore Westcarr, to a time of 40.14. Amoah and Opuni ran the first two legs of the 4x400m Relay and were followed by
Malik John and
Anija Addison to finish in a time of 3:09.92.
Opuni also medaled in the 400m dash, taking second in 47.37 while
Jona Hanson was the other lone Eagle to medal with a silver medal performance in the javelin (145-1).
Addison garnered fifth place points for the Eagles in the 1,500m (4:07.16) while Westcarr and Manu took eighth in the 100m and 200m dash, respectively, in 10.65 and 21.49.
In field events,
Balvin Richards took seventh in the discus (144-5) and
Tyrek Goy finished sixth in the decathlon (4,339).
The Eagles are set to compete at the historic Penn Relays in Philadelphia on April 25-27.
