NORFOLK, Va. – Coppin State's
Chance Graham was named the MEAC Defensive Player of the Year and earned Second Team All-Conference honors while
Brooke Fields was named First Team All-MEAC, it was announced by the league office Friday afternoon.
A junior from Upper Marlboro, Md., Graham is receiving All-Conference honors for the third time and a major MEAC award for the second time. Graham was named the MEAC Rookie of the Year and took home Third Team honors after the 2016-17 season while earning Second Team All-MEAC accolades as a sophomore.
Graham led the MEAC with 11.6 rebounds, which ranks 10
th in NCAA Division I, while her 16 double-doubles also were tops in the conference and 16
th in the Nation. She also ranked sixth in the league with 1.7 steals and eighth with 1.2 blocked shots. Graham also showcased her scoring prowess with 15.1 points per game which was second on the team and seventh in the MEAC.
Graham reached double figures in scoring 21 times with six games of at least 20 points. She had arguably her best game as an Eagles when she tallied 31 points and 22 rebounds with five steals at Niagara. Graham later grabbed a career-high 25 rebounds against Savannah State, the second-most in CSU single-game history.
In just three seasons at Coppin, Graham is plastered all over the CSU all-time record books. In a senior night victory over Delaware State, Graham became the 15
th Lady Eagle to record 1,000 career points. Graham is also approaching the school's career rebounding record with 881 rebounds, just 27 shy of Rene' Doctor's school-record of 908. Graham is also fifth in school-history in free throws made (306) and free throw attempts (438).
Fields is having her best collegiate season which is saying a ton as she scored 1,226 points in just three seasons at Roberts Wesleyan before transferring to Coppin as a senior. Fields leads the team with a career-high 17.1 points, 49 3-pointers and 110 assists. In conference play, Fields has tallied 19.9 points, 2.9 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 1.5 steals while making 31 3-pointers and 96-of-118 (81.4%) from the free throw line.
A 5-foot-6 guard from Owings Mills, Md., Fields scored in double figures in 23 games with 12 games of at least 20 points. She also had ten games with at least five assists. Fields had two double-doubles on the year with a season-high 26 points and career-high ten rebounds at Delaware State, as well as a 19 point, 11 assist effort against the Hornets on Senior Night. Her 11 assists was a career-high and set a Physical Education Complex single-game record.
In her illustrious career, Fields has accumulated 1,706 points (14.5 per game), 525 field goals, 201 3-pointers, made 455-of-594 (76.6%) free throws, 354 rebounds, 344 assists and 145 steals.
