RICHMOND, Va. – Abayie Opuni and
Aaron Lewis won their respective events as the Coppin State men's track & field team had ten top-five performances at the VCU Ram Invite this weekend.
Opuni took the 400m dash in 48.67, besting his closest competitor by nearly half a second. Opuni also ran a leg of the victorious 4x400m Relay that finished in 3:20.13. Joining him was
Anija Addison,
Joseph Amoah and
Joseph Manu.
Lewis ran into a strong headwind and won the 110m hurdles in 14.43, edging Hampton's Dylan Beard and Jaelen Williams. Lewis also anchored the 4x100m Relay of Manu, Amoah and
Theodore Westcarr in 43.45, taking fifth overall.
Also medaling on the day was
Cheyenne Johnson,
Michael Scott and
Keshaun Hodges. Johnson and Scott earned silvers in the 400m hurdles (54.80) and long jump (22-7.25), respectively, while Hodges captured the bronze in the 100m dash (10.96)
In field events,
Damon Rodwell took fourth in the long jump (21-11),
Balvin Richards finished fourth in the shot put (47-6.25) and
Jona Hanson tossed the javelin 145-10 to take fifth overall.
