Softball Defeats Delaware State in Final At-Bat in MEAC Opener

DOVER, Del. – Cayla Brown drove in Patricia Soria with an RBI single in the top of the seventh inning, giving the Coppin State softball team a 3-2 victory at Delaware State in the MEAC opener for both teams Saturday afternoon at the Hornet's Nest.

How it Happened (Game 1)
  • The score remained scoreless through two innings despite Delaware State threatening in the first and Coppin State in the second.
  • The Eagles were first on the board as Cayla Brown doubled down the left field line to score Patricia Soria, who led off the third inning with a double. Kylie Flagler then ran for Brown, and following a wild pitch, scored on Nia Bowe's single to first to make it a 2-0 ballgame.
  • Madison Didion threw a 1-2-3 third inning but the Hornets tied the score with two runs on three hits in the fourth.
  • Neither team scored in the fifth or sixth but Brown once again drove in Soria with a single in the seventh. Soria reached scoring position after singling up the middle before advancing on a groundout.
  • Didion threw another 1-2-3 inning in the seventh, including a strikeout to end the game.
Inside the Numbers (Game 1)
  • Cayla Brown and Patricia Soria had half of the team's eight hits with two base knocks apiece. Soria scored twice and drew a walk while Brown drove in two runs.
  • Nia Bowe also reached twice safely with a RBI single and a walk.
  • Madison Didion earned the victory, allowing just two runs on five hits while striking out three in a complete game.
