Softball Drops Pair of Heartbreakers at Delaware State in Final At-Bats

DOVER, Del. – Coppin State dropped a pair of one-run games at MEAC rival Delaware State on Sunday at the Hornet's Nest.  DSU took the opener, 4-3, before winning game two, 3-2 in a ten-inning affair.

How it Happened (Game 1)
  • Coppin rallied from a 3-0 deficit after three innings to tie score in the fourth with three runs of its own.
  • Brissa Alvarado got the rally started with a two-out single before being replaced by pinch runner Lexi FlomMegan Narvaez then doubled to the gap in right center, allowing Flom to score.  Nia Bowe then tied the score with her second home run of the season to center field.
  • The score remained tied until the bottom of the seventh when Delaware State got a walkoff single.
Inside the Numbers (Game 1)
  • Coppin outhit Delaware State, 8-6, getting two hits apiece by Megan Narvaez and Kylie Flagler.  Narvaez also drove in a run while Nia Bowe had two RBI.
  • Brissa Alvarado allowed just one earned run in the circle over 6.1 innings, allowing just six hits.
How it Happened (Game 2)
  • Coppin once again rallied to tie the score, this time from a 2-0 deficit after the first inning.
  • The Eagles started the rally with a run in the second on an RBI double by Soraya Valdez-FrickKylie Flagler scored from second on the play after being hit by a pitch and getting to second on a fielder's choice.
  • Starting pitcher Madison Didion allowed just one base runner over the next three innings to keep it a one-run deficit before CSU tied the score in the fifth on an RBI single by Nicole Ullman.  Ullman's base knock scored Melanie Aguilera after she singled to start the frame and advancing on a sac bunt by Valdez-Frick.
  • Neither team was able to score until the tenth inning when the Hornets got a walk-off sacrifice fly to right field.
Inside the Numbers (Game 2)
  • Both teams had just five hits on the day which was quite a pitcher's duel.
  • Madison Didion allowed just two earned runs while striking out four in 9.1 innings of work.
