GLEN ALLEN, Va. – Coppin State's bowling team finished fifth of 11 schools at the Virginia Union Invitational this weekend at Bowl America. Sophomore
Kaylah Castillo was named to the All-Tournament Team after her 189.25 average over four games was third of 78 bowlers.
The Eagles finished 3-1 in their Baker matches, opening the day with victories over Virginia Union (771-696) and Fayetteville State (830-722) before falling to Howard, 956-849. After a Bye in which they rolled a 815, CSU closed out Bakers with a 768-650 win over Bowie State.
Traditional matches started out favorably for Coppin who posted a 812-715 win over Virginia State, but the Eagles dropped the final four matches to Wilmington (1,021-825), Chestnut Hill (831-813), Mount Aloysius (862-814) and Norfolk State (861-795).
During Sunday's championship bracket, Coppin got revenge on Mount Aloysius with a 4-1 win before falling to Chestnut Hill, 4-1. The Eagles once again defeated Mount Aloysius in the fifth place game with a 4-2 victory.
After sitting out the first match, Castillo rolled a 201 vs. Wilmington, 199 vs. Chestnut Hill and a 204 against Mount Aloysius before a 153 against Norfolk. Her 757 pins over the four games put her 29
th overall in the final individual standings.

nd overall was
Raja Anderson who averaged a 168.40 in her five matches, which included games of 188 against Virginia State and 191 against Mount Aloysius.
Nia Turner averaged a 140.00 in her five matches with a high game of 155 against Norfolk.
Jazzleen McRae got stronger as matches went on and closed with a 157.25 average which included a high of 170 in the final match against Norfolk.
Aushia McLean averaged a 171.33 in her three matches, including a 200 against Wilmington.
Also competing for CSU was
Mya Hamlett, who averaged a 143.00 in three matches with a 162 against Chestnut Hill, and
Sydney Tyler who bowled a 188 in her lone match against Virginia State.
Coppin is set to host MEAC Meet #1 on November 8-10 at Bowl America in Glen Burnie, Md.
