Montana Holds Off Late Run by Men’s Hoops, 69-62

MISSOULA, Mont. – Coppin State's men's basketball team put five players in double figures and made a late second half run but the Eagles fell to the Grizzlies, 69-62 on Friday night at Dahlberg Arena.

Inside the Numbers
  • Five Coppin players scored in double figures for the second-straight game, led by Kamar McKnight who finished with 15 points.
  • Koby Thomas recorded 12 points and Aaron Robinson added 11 points while Andrew Robinson and Dejuan Clayton chipped in with ten points apiece.  Andrew Robinson and Brendan Medley-Bacon grabbed a team-high seven rebounds each.
  • Montana shot 54.5% from the floor in the first half and 44.6% for the game compared to Coppin who made 36.3% of its shots in the first half and 39.0% for the game.
  • The Grizzlies got double-doubles from Sayeed Pridgett (19 points, 12 rebounds) and Derrick Carter-Hollinger (10 points, 10 rebounds).
How it Happened
  • Kamar McKnight put Coppin on top with an inside jumper 30 seconds into the game, but Montana came back with the next five points.
  • Dejuan Clayton and McKnight buckets sandwiched one by the Grizzlies, but with the hosts clinging to a 14-12 lead after a three by Andrew Robinson, UM went on a 12-2 run over the next 5:07 to go up, 26-14.
  • Montana went into the half with a 42-29 lead and opened the second half on an 8-2 lead to go up 50-31 at the 16:49 mark.
  • Coppin then went on a 9-0 run with a pair of threes by McKnight and another by Robinson to cut the deficit to ten, but a 13-4 Grizzlies stretch extended the lead back to 63-44 with 7:41 at the under-8 media timeout.
  • The Eagles held Montana scoreless for the next 4:08 and scored 13 unanswered points to pull to within 63-57 at the 3:33 mark.
  • After trading points, Coppin had an opportunity to make it a one-possession game but missed a pair of threes before the Grizzlies scored our-straight to go up by double digits.
  • Aaron Robinson hit a three to pull within 69-62 with 17 ticks remaining but Montana ran out the clock to seal the victory.
Up Next: Coppin State will head back to the East Coast and travel to face East Carolina on Tuesday, December 3 at 7 pm.  The matchup with the Pirates will be broadcast on ESPN3.
