Bowling Wraps Up Fall Season with 12th Place Finish at Vern Stallings Invitational

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Coppin State's bowling team finished 12th at the Vern Stallings Aggies Invitational at AMF All Star Lanes over the weekend. Freshman Raja Anderson the Eagles with 1,078 total pins in six matches while seniors Aushia McLean and Nia Turner had the top averages for Coppin with 180.20 in five matches, and 181.75 in four matches, respectively.

The Eagles finished Friday's Baker matches with a 1-4 record, defeating Texas Southern, 906-900 in the opener.  After the win, Coppin fell to Maryland Eastern Shore, 1,011-846, North Carolina A&T, 1,106-927 Mount St. Mary's, 931-875, and Delaware State, 969-832.

Coppin also took one traditional match on Saturday with the lone win coming against Lincoln Memorial, 878-852, in the second match of the day. The Eagles opened the second day of the tournament with a loss to Louisiana Tech (971-861) before closing with defeats against Alabama-Birmingham (1,008-825), Tusculum (1,025-922), Prarie View A&M (982-918) and Howard (880-840).

Anderson had the top individual match for the Eagles over the weekend, rolling a 222 against Prarie View A&M while also bowling a 183 against Louisiana Tech and a 186 against UAB.  Anderson finished 35th of 74 individual bowlers.

McLean had four matches with at least 180 pins, with a high of 197 against Tusculum as well as a 192 against Lincoln Memorial.

Kaylah Castillo closed out traditional play well with a 194 and 198 in back-to-back matches against Tusculum and Prarie Viw A&M and finished with a 176.20 average.

Mya Hamlett opened the tournament with a solid 180 against Louisiana Tech and later rolled a 221 against Tusculum. 

Jazzleen McCrea's best game came in the finale against Howard (181) while Turner recorded a 215 against Lincoln Memorial and closed with a 193 against Howard.

Sunday's Championship bracket pitted Coppin against Howard in the opening match with the Bison taking the best-of-seven in six matches.  In the 11th place match, the Eagles won the first three matches against Texas Southern but then dropped four-straight.
