BALTIMORE – Coppin State University's bowling teams opens its 2019-20 season this weekend at the Bud Whitman Invitational, hosted by Chestnut Hill on October 12-13 at Berks lanes in Reading, Pa.  In the season-opening Tournament, the Eagles will play Baker matches on Saturday against Kutztown, Caldwell, Mount St. Mary's, Mt. Aloysius and LIU-Brooklyn.  The following day, CSU plays Traditional matches against Howard, Felician, Chestnut Hill, Duquesne and Adelphi.

"I'm excited to get the season going," said head coach Shaunita Middleton.  "I have a strong nucleus in my team with five returners and two freshmen.  Everyone is hungry and ready to show the hard work that's being put in.  We are looking to push further past the season we had last year and with the skills and talent that this team brings we're sure to get it done."

The Eagles will compete in five matches during the Fall before a three-month break until opening the Spring at Bowl for the Kure on February 1-2.   Following the opener, Coppin travels to the Mount St. Mary's Shootout (October 19-20) and the Virginia Union Invitational (Nov. 1-3) before hosting MEAC Meet #1 at Bowl America in Glen Burnie, Md., on November 8-10.

Two weeks after getting back for the Spring, Coppin will head to Morgan State's James Brown Invitational on February 14-16 before traveling to the Sunshine State for M=EAC Meet #2 on February 21-23.  The TNBA HBCU Invitational follows the second MEAC Meet in Atlanta on March 6-8, just prior to the USBC Qualifiers on March 14-15.

The 2020 MEAC Tournament is set for March 20-22 at AMF Chesapeake Lanes in Chesapeake, Va. Picked to finish ninth in the MEAC, the Eagles are led by senior Nia Turner who was the first CSU Bowler to earn All-Conference honors last season.

"I believe that this season will be very different from last year," said Turner. "My new teammates are hungry and that only makes me want to perform better. I think that all of us, as a whole, are ready to put on the best season of our lives."
