Track & Field Returns to Action for First Time in 2019 at HBCU Battle on Friday Evening

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Coppin State men's and women's track & field team returns to action for the first time since December 1 when it heads to the Big Apple for the HBCU Battle Friday afternoon. The starting gun from the New Balance Track & Field Center at The Armory is set for 5 pm.  Over 15 schools from all collegiate levels are expected to compete, including a couple of MEAC institutions.
 
Last Time Out (Men): On the men's side, Joseph Amoah was named the MEAC Track Athlete of the Week after winning the 60m Dash at the Fast Track Season Opener in 6.72, which was then the fastest time in NCAA Division I.  His time is currently third in the Nation.  Anija Addison also earned a top five finish, clocking a 1:59.75 in the 800m.  Top ten finishes were recorded by Elijah Noel in the long jump (21-8), Balvin Richards in the Shot Put (48-10.75), Tyrek Goy in the High Jump (6-0.5) and Theodore Westcarrr in the 200m Dash (22.73).
 
Last Time Out (Women): Tre'J Johnson led the Eagles with a first place finish in the long jump (17-11) and second place in the triple jump (37-3.25).  Erykah Jerome and Tatiana Ogundeko took third in the 400m Dash and Mile in times of 58.30 and 5:12.11, respectively.  Alanna Newby led CSU in the throws with a toss of 41-9.25 in the shot put.  The 400m Dash was a showcase of CSU depth as Ivonna Hoskins, Jamsine Henery and Janee Quailes ran impressive times behind Jerome.  Cathryn Lane also impressive in the short sprints with a 7.92 and 25.49 in the 60 and 200m Dash.  In the pole vault, Aidan Alston cleared 9-10.
