Coppin Contributors
  • CSU had the unenviable task of trying to slow down top-25 opponents #25 West Virginia and #9 Maryland on the road. Coppin lost both contests and are looking to regroup against the undefeated Retrievers.
  • Chance Graham has picked up where she left off a season ago, as she leads the Eagles in points (26), rebounds (24), and blocks (4) in the early going.
  • A selection on the Preseason All-MEAC First Team, she recorded her first double-double (17 points, 11 rebounds) against West Virginia after notching 12 in 2017-18.
  • Graham is second in the MEAC in rebounds per game (12.0), fifth in blocked shots per game (2.0), and paces the conference in average minutes played (38.0).
  • Roberts Wesleyan transfer Brooke Fields has been doing more passing than shooting so far, as she has set up her teammates with three assists per game, good for tenth in the MEAC.
  • Fields has been able to convert her attempts from the charity stripe consistently, going 5-for-6 and a .833 free-throw percentage.
  • Freshman E'Mya Price topped double-digit points for the first time in her collegiate career against Maryland, topping all CSU scorers with 11 points while presently second on the team with 13 total points.
  • Tsahai Corbie has made her way onto the back-end of the MEAC leaderboard as the guard places inside the top-15 in steals per contest (2.5).
  • Plenty of newcomers to Charm City have contributed in some fashion over the first full week of play, as true freshman Jalynda Salley (11), senior Brooke Fields, and UDC transfer Kaiya Coleman (4) all scored their first buckets for the Navy and Gold.
Scouting the UMBC Retrievers
  • UMBC is off to its best start in 33 years, starting the season 4-0 with wins over Gettysburg, Eastern (PA), UTSA, and Kennesaw State. The Retrievers are already just one game shy of matching last year's output of 5-26 and are projected to finish eighth in the nine-team America East Conference.
  • Maryland-Baltimore County swept the conference's weekly awards, with Janee'a Summers and Paula Rubio winning Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively.
  • Summers averaged 16 points and 6.5 rebounds in the four contests to go along with a career-high 22 points in the victory over Gettysburg.
  • Rubio eclipsed double-digit points in her first collegiate action with 12, shot 50% from the floor for the week, averaged 6.5 points, and 2 assist per game in her first week of basketball on American soil.
  • The Retrievers are extremely young as the team employs seven freshman, three sophomores, four juniors and zero seniors.
  • UMBC has six international players in 2018-19 as Australia, New Zealand, Spain (2), Italy, and Russia all appear in the team's nationality makeup.
News and Notes:
Take A Chance On Me
In just two seasons, junior forward Chance Graham already ranks 15th on Coppin State's career rebounding list with 568.  Graham is well on pace to shatter Rene' Doctor's ('95) career record of 908 rebounds.  In just 59 games, Graham has averaged 9.6 rebounds per game.  A Second team All-MEAC selection last year, Graham led the conference with 10.7 rebounds per game and her 309 rebounds were the second most in Coppin single-season history.
Coppin State All-Time Rebounds Leaderboard
1. Rene' Doctor (908)
2. Kiesha Brooks (865)
3. Larrisa Carter (826)
4. Yvette Larkins (757)
5. Bridgid Mitchell (728)
14. Liesha Mitchell (604)
15. Chance Graham (581)

Having A Fields Day
New to the squad this season is senior Brooke Fields, a former standout at Division II Roberts Wesleyan College.  In three seasons with the Redhawks, Fields scored 1,226 points with a career-high 33 points in a victory over Bridgeport.  Two seasons ago, Fields earned All-ECC honors with 15.6 points per game along with an 83% free throw percentage.

Staying In The DMV
Senior transfer Kaiya Coleman was a near double-digit scorer two years ago at Division II University of the District of Columbia. She also has connections with head men's basketball coach Juan Dixon, as she played under his tutelage in both individuals' lone season with the Firebirds, going 3-25.

Welcome Back
Coppin welcomes back sophomore Maraiyah Smith after she had a standout freshman season a year ago. Smith averaged nearly nine points per game and ten points in conference play.

What's In A Name?
Along with Graham and Smith, Oluwadamilola Oloyede returns to the fold for the Navy and Gold. While all the vowels in her name might make one lose their breath after one roll call, she prefers to go by "Dami" to make it easier on her peers. Oloyede had her bright spots in 2017-18, putting up 17 points while making all seven of her shots at Charlotte to go with three double-doubles.

Hawaii 2-5
Charlottesville native Adrienne Darden has made her way back to the east coast after seeing limited playing time at University of Hawaii two seasons ago. The junior boasts a career-high of seven points versus Boise State and brings a vertical element to the club that was lacking in depth.

Freshman Takeover
To coincide with the Eagles' three transfers Darden, Fields, and Coleman, CSU welcomes a plethora of first year players into the mix with redshirt freshman Tsahai Corbie (Brooklyn, N.Y.) as well as true freshmen Diamond Adams (South Bend, Ind.), E'Mya Price (Charlotte, N.C.), Jalynda Salley (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) and Elan Wali (Wyncote, Pa) all expected to get significant minutes on the hardwood.
