ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Sophomores
Joseph Amoah and
Aaron Lewis both earned individual victories highlighting Coppin State University's men's track & field season opener at the Navy Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
Amoah won the 60m dash in a time of 6.80, just a mere .02 off his own school-record time that he set at the 2017 IC4A Championships. He also led off the 4x400m Relay to a second place finish in 3:17.48, coming in just .11 behind Georgetown.
Lewis also narrowly missed his own school-record in the 60m hurdles, winning the event in 7.95. Lewis also took fifth in the 200m Dash in a personal-record 22.41. In the 200m,
Babadeji Balogun and
Devin Teagle crossed just after in times of 22.71 and 22.83, respectively.
Also medaling on the day was senior
Martin Owusu-Antwi who took second in the 400m Dash in 48.51 and
Elijah Noel in the triple jump with a second place effort of 44' 8.75". Owusu-Antwi also ran the second leg of the 4x400 which was rounded out by newcomers
Anija Addison and
Cheyenne Johnson.
In the field events, Noel also took fourth in the long jump (22' 3.00") as did
Tyrek Goy in the high jump (6' 2.75").
Addison and Johnson also ran in the 800m Run crossing one after the other in 1:57.08 and 1:57.62, good for fifth and sixth place.
Senior
Mark London crossed the finish of the 1500m Run in 4:12.21.
The Eagles will have over a month off until their next meet which is set for January 12 at the HBCU Challenge at The Armory in New York City.
