Men’s Hoops Falls at East Carolina in Showcase on the Banks Opener

GREENVILLE, N.C. – Coppin State University's men's basketball team fell at East Carolina University, 76-50, on Sunday evening at Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum in the opener of the Showcase on the Banks Tournament.

Adam Traore led the Eagles (0-2) with ten points thanks to going 7-of-8 from the line as Coppin struggled from the field shooting just 24.6% on the night.  Dejuan Clayton added eight points while KeAndre Fair finished with six points off the bench on a pair of threes.  All 11 players that entered the game for the Eagles made a field goal on the day.

East Carolina (1-0) led nearly from start to finish as they opened the scoring with a dunk in transition but Clayton buried a trifecta just after, giving Coppin its only lead of the game.  The Pirates score four straight points before a three by Traore tied the game at six with 16:07 left in the first half.

From there it was all East Carolina as they went on an 8-0 run over the next four-plus minutes and extended its lead to 40-18 at the half.

The teams played pretty much even in the second half but the Eagles shot just 30% in the period and just 24.6% for the game.

Kentrell Barkley and Shawn Williams led the Pirates with 14 points apiece while Isaac Fleming added 12.

On deck for Coppin State is a date at 12th-ranked Cincinnati on Thursday, November 16 at 7pm.  The night after, the Eagles will make the short drive north to Cleveland State for a 7 pm start.
