BALTIMORE- Freshman Kyrstian Negron pitched a complete game in Coppin State's 3-0 home shutout victory over Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference foe Delaware State on Friday, March 25 in Joe Cannon Stadium.
Negron threw 118 total pitches allowing six hits and striking out seven Hornet batters as he picked up his second win of the season.
Senior outfielders John Kraft and George Dragon led the Eagles with two hits apiece.
Dragon, along with junior infielder Bryant Miranda and freshman designated hitter Nazier McIlwain each added an RBI for Coppin State.
The Eagles exploded for three runs on three hits in the bottom of the first inning.
Freshman infielder Erik Crossman began the inning by reaching base on an error by the Hornet's third baseman. Senior John Kraft then stepped to the plate and singled to right field for one of his two hits.
Crossman and Kraft would both advance a base before senior outfielder George Dragon belted an RBI single into left field to score Crossman.
Kraft would score on a wild pitch as Dragon then advanced to third.
Nazier McIlwain smashed an RBI double into the center field fence, scoring Dragon.
It would be Coppin State's final run of the game and all the Eagles needed to secure the home field victory.
John Kraft picked up a stolen base after recording his second hit and also singled to right field in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Bryant Miranda also stole second base in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Coppin State will complete its home series against Delaware State with a doubleheader on Saturday, March 26 at Joe Cannon Stadium. The first game will begin at 1:00 p.m. The second game will begin 30 minutes after the first game ends.Â
