ATLANTA – Freshmen infielder
Erik Crossman had three hits in a doubleheader against Georgia State University on Saturday, February 27
th. Coppin State was shutout in both games, 17-0 in game one and 12-0 in game two.
Infielder
Bryant Miranda singled to second base to get things going for the blue and gold at the top of the fourth inning in game one of a doubleheader.
In the next inning, infielder
Jamar Criss singled to the pitcher for the Eagles second hit of the game. Coppin State added on another two hits in the sixth with outfielder
Clinton Arnold leading off with a single to third base and infielder
Erik Crossman singling to right field.
The Panthers finished with 13 hits and 17 runs blanking the Eagles. Georgia State had one run in the first inning, two in the third inning, one in the fifth inning, four in the sixth inning, one in the seventh inning, and eight in the eighth inning.
Devin Sutorius was issued the loss after pitching 5.2 innings, striking out three batters, and giving up six hits.
Delvin McFadden threw two innings striking out a pair and surrendering three hits.
In the second game of the doubleheader
Erik Crossman tallied two hits while
George Dragon and Nazier McIlwain each singled against the Panthers. Crossman singled to center field in the first inning and then singled up the middle in the third inning.
Coppin State belted out two hits in the first inning as infielder
George Dragon singled through the right side along with Crossman. In the final inning McIlwain singled up the middle for the Eagles fourth hit.
Georgia State had 11 hits and 12 runs in their Saturday sweep of the Eagles. They had three runs in the first inning, one in the second, three in the third, four in the fourth, and one run in the fifth inning.
Pitcher
Krystian Negron picked up the loss for CSU after tossing 3.2 innings and striking out one batter.
Coppin State and Georgia State finished up their four game weekend series with a single game scheduled for Sunday, February 28
th at 1p.m.
