Pocomoke City, MD – Three Eagle bowlers placed in the top-20 at the Mid-Eastern Athletic (MEAC) North Meet #2 over the weekend of December 3-4 hosted by Maryland Eastern Shore. Coppin State placed fifth in the conference roundup with 6373 total pins posting 3154 pins in baker play and 3219 in traditional style.
Delaware State took first place going 8-0 and knocking down a high of 7827 pins. Maryland Eastern Shore (6-2) was second with 7435 pins, Howard (3-5) was third with 6925 pins and Morgan State (3-5) was fourth reaching 6586 pins.
Freshman
Mya Hamlett ranked ninth overall averaging 168.75 pinfalls, junior Erika Monk was tenth averaging 167.75 and freshman
Nia Turner was 11
th overall at 166.75 pins.
Individually, Turner led the Eagles with 178 pins against Morgan State (772-754) and in their last match bowled with 167 pinfalls against Maryland Eastern Shore (943-742). Hamlett was the only Coppin State bowler to record a 200+ game carrying the load against Delaware State (927-905) with 207 pins while Monk was the high bowler in their third match against Howard (833-818) with 185 pins.
The Eagles wrapped up the second MEAC meet of the season with four losses in baker play. In their first match on Sunday Coppin State went down by 28 pins to Howard (846-818). That was their highest pinfall total as a team throughout the four matches played. Maryland Eastern Shore won 906-794, Morgan State won 776-747 and Delaware State cruised to a 973-795 victory ending the weekend of competition.
Coppin State returns to the lanes on the weekend of February 17-19, 2017 at the James Brown Invitational in Towson, MD hosted by Morgan State University.
