Mya Hamlett recorded her second 200+ pinfall game of the year in a MEAC victory over rival Morgan State University on Saturday, November 12
th at the MEAC North #1 Tournament in Towson, MD.
Mya Hamlett was Coppin State's top bowler in their first MEAC Northern Division Tournament of the season. Hamlett averaged 190.75 over four games totaling 763 pinfalls. She bowled a pair of 200+ games against Delaware State (232) and Morgan State (202).
Coppin State ended day one of the 2016 MEAC Northern Division Tournament with a victory against rival Morgan State (839-810). Hamlett paced the Eagles to a win with a team-high 202 pinfalls. Junior
Jasmine Newman added 192 pinfalls, junior
Erica Monk bowled 168, freshman
Kaylin Hobson finished with 152 and sophomore
Jasmyne Johnson had 125 pinfalls.
The Eagles suffered defeats earlier in the day to Maryland Eastern Shore (905-772), Howard (774-696) and Delaware State (987-810). Hamlett led the Eagles in matches against UMES with 179 pinfalls and against Delaware State with a season-high 232 pinfalls. Johnson finished with a team-high 160 pinfalls against Howard.
On Sunday in baker play, the Eagles went down in all four matches. Delaware State picked up an 894-735 win, Maryland Eastern Shore (1,014-808), Howard (830-786) and Morgan State (834-774).
"This weekend was very competitive and I am proud of the way my team competed," said head women's bowling coach
Shaunita Middleton. "Their energy was high throughout and they kept each other encouraged. It is early on in the season and as we continue to move forward we will continue to get stronger as a team".
Coppin State's bowling team will prepare for their next tournament in Millsboro, DE on Nov. 18-20 at the Maryland Eastern Shore Hawk Classic.
