DOVER, Del. – The Coppin State University women's cross country team placed sixth out of nine teams on Saturday, Oct. 15 as it competed in the Delaware State University Pre Conference Run Invite. Freshman
Tatiana Ogundeko paced the Eagles once again as she placed fourth overall in the field.
North Carolina A&T claimed the team victory in the 5K race on Saturday with five runners placing in the top-13. Mount St. Mary's finished second while Morgan State was third.
Mount St. Mary's Kole Madeline won the race in 19:01.7, while G'Jasmine Butler of North Carolina A&T finished second (19:22.2) and Morgan State's Karen Escobedo was third (20:00.7).
Ogundeko's fourth place finish (20:07.3) was her highest finish this season and also a season-best time. In all 5K races this season Ogundeko has placed in the top-10. She has had the highest individual finish for CSU in all five races in her freshman season.
Freshman
Cionne Gourrier posted her fourth top-20 finish, finishing 19
th overall with a time of 21:42.6. Sophomore
Lunnise Gibson followed Gourrier in 25
th in a time of 22:03.7.
Freshman Eriell Walace was CSU's fourth-fastest runner on Saturday, finishing 39
th in 23:16.4. Freshman Jasmine Henry was 58
th rounding out the top-five for the Eagles squad with a time of 29:36.2.
Freshmen
Erika Hightower, Nisa Shelton and Tavier Nealy also competed on Saturday, finishing 59
th, 66
th and 67
th respectively. Hightower crossed the finish line at 29:36.6, Shelton at 43.27.0 and Nealy posted a time of 43:27.2.
The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday, October 29
th at the 2016 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Championships hosted by Delaware State.
