BALTIMORE – Coppin State has named
Brandon Kuhn as its strength and conditioning coach.
Kuhn begins his first year with the Coppin State athletics department after spending the last three years working at Western Kentucky University.
"One of the interesting things about sport today, the weight training and conditioning piece is just as critical," Coppin State Director of Athletics Derrick K. Ramsey said. "He brings a lot of experience to our student-athletes. When I saw that he worked for Bobby Knight (at Texas Tech), I knew he was our guy. We're looking forward to having him as part of our staff and excited to have him working with our athletic teams."
In addition to specifically working with the Western Kentucky men's basketball strength and conditioning coach, he worked four previous years as a men's basketball strength and conditioning coach at Texas Tech.
"I would like to express my sincere appreciation to Mr. Ramsey for entrusting me with the opportunity to revitalize the Strength and Conditioning Department as well as the chance to be a part of the Coppin State University family and community," Kuhn said. "I am excited for the future of Coppin State Athletics."
After serving in an assistant's role, Kuhn was the head men's basketball strength and conditioning coach for the Red Raiders from the end of the 2010-11 season until joining the staff at WKU in the fall of 2011.
In the offseason leading up to the 2012-13 season, Kuhn orchestrated a demanding strength and conditioning schedule for the Hilltoppers that involved, among other items, weekly workouts at the sand pits in Bowling Green. As a result, numerous Hilltoppers made notable gains in adding muscle and trimming body fat in the offseason.
Along with the Hilltopper team, Kuhn leads NBA players Jeremy Evans, Tyler Hansbrough and Ben Hansbrough in off-season workouts.
Kuhn earned his bachelor's of science degree in exercise science from Angelo State University in 2006 and received a master's degree in strength and conditioning from Texas Tech University in 2010.
