PHILADELPHIA -- The Coppin State baseball team battled La Salle University to a 4-4 tie in a non conference game called after six innings because of rain at Hank DeVincent Field Wednesday afternoon.
Leading Coppin State's offense was the triumvirate of Jack Kraft,
Randal Mendez and
George Dragon, all of whom singled. The Eagles (2-23-1) took advantage of La Salle mistakes to score three of their runs.
Colin Dower scored on a balk in the top of the first inning. Dragon scored when
Mike Wright patiently drew a bases loaded walk. Fitch and Miranda scored on a La Salle error during a three-run fourth inning rally that gave Coppin State a 4-1 lead.
Â
La Salle's Ryan Welling scored on a wild pitch to tie the game in the fifth after tripling in a run to cut the CSU lead to 4-3. Justin Korenblatt drove in a run with a groundout in the La Salle fourth to make it a two-run game.
Â
After Coppin State took a 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st, Derek Prucnal plated Mark Williams with an infield single to tie the game in the bottom half of the opening frame.
Coppin State returns to action Saturday afternoon when it hosts Delaware State in a key MEAC doubleheader beginning at 1:00 pm at Joe Cannon Stadium.
