BALTIMORE – Coppin State closed out its three-game set against Norfolk State Friday with a 12-1 setback in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) match-up at the CSU Softball Complex.
The Eagles (3-27 overall, 3-9 MEAC) struck first, scoring their lone run of the game in the first inning.
Junior
Alanna Williams singled to centerfield to get on base and advanced to second thanks to classmate
Shelby Mendoza's single to the shortstop.
With two outs, Williams took a chance and successfully stole third before crossing home plate on an error by the catcher.
Along with Williams and Mendoza, junior
Lauren Rogers and senior
Candice Van Horn also posted hits. Van Horn leads Coppin State with a .373 batting average through 30 games.
For NSU, Megan Dunning finished with three runs, three hits and an RBI. The Spartans now claim the top spot among the MEAC Northern Division.
Coppin State won't have time to rest. The Eagles will visit Hampton for a doubleheader on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. and a single game on Sunday at noon.
