BALTIMORE – Coppin State fell to Delaware State 19-12 Monday afternoon in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) match-up at the CSU Softball Field.

Danielle Smith was perfect on the day, going 2-for-2 with three walks.
Smith finished with a .857 batting average through the three-game series against the Hornets. She also extended her hitting streak to 11 games.

Candice Van Horn both hit .500. Rogers had two hits, two RBIs and a run while Van Horn added three runs, two hits and an RBI.

Shelby Mendoza batted .400 with three runs, two hits and two RBIs.
Mendoza was quick to put Coppin State on the board in the bottom of the first inning with a two-run homer over the leftfield fence.
The Eagles (3-21 overall, 3-6 MEAC) let their feathers fly during the bottom of the second. They posted six runs on five hits to take their only lead of the game, 8-6.

Kimberlynn Brown got things going when she doubled to right center. Rogers followed up with a double of her own over leftfield to send Brown home.
Coppin State managed to load the bases with one out. Mendoza got on base due to an error by DSU's second baseman to score Rogers. With the bases loaded once again, Van Horn's single to leftfield got freshman

Alanna Williams stepped up huge with a base clearing double to leftfield for three runs.
The Hornets (10-21, 4-4) were led by Danielle Velez with six RBIs, four hits and three runs. DSU had eight players with at least two hits.
Coppin State gets back on the road to face George Washington Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. in a non-conference contest.
