SPARTANBURG, S.C. –
George Dragon extended his hitting streak to seven games and Jack Kraft slugged a two-run home run during Coppin State's 13-4 loss to Wofford Tuesday night in a non-conference baseball contest at King Field.
Dragon had two hits to notch his fourth multi-hit game of the season, and third in his last five outings. He leads Coppin State with four multi-hit outings. Dragon is sizzling for the Eagles over their last five games, posting a .400 batting average (8-for-20). He also has a .381 on-base percentage during that stretch.
In addition, Dragon has created 3.63 runs created during the last five games for Coppin State based on the Bill James "technical" version. Also over that span, Dragon has compiled an 1.065 OPS (on-base plus slugging) average.
Coppin State (1-11 overall) was playing its fourth game in three days.
The Eagles battled early in the game thanks to a pair of two runs innings. Freshman
Jacquez Hunn recorded his first career collegiate RBI in the second inning to help Coppin State pull to within, 3-1. Michael Wright, who walked twice, scored for the Eagles on an error that allowed
Colin Dower to reach base.
Two innings later, Kraft destroyed a ball to centerfield for his first home run of the season. He leads the Eagles with six runs batted in. Chris Rodriguez singled to lead off the fourth inning for Coppin State, which had two hits each in the first, second, fourth and fifth innings. The Eagles also left 12 men on base.
Randal Mendez, who leads Coppin State in batting at .326, collected his team leading 14th hit of the season with a single. Dragon has a .317 average through 12 games for Coppin State.
Wofford (17-5) was led by Connor Clancy, who had three hits and four runs batted in. Kody Ruedisili also had three hits for the Terriers.
Coppin State and Wofford conclude their quick two-game set with a 4:00 p.m. start on Wednesday. Yayha Muhammed is scheduled to start for the Eagles.
