ANNAPOLIS, Md. –
Jonathan Calvin had two hits and scored for the Coppin State baseball team during a 20-1 loss to Navy in a non-conference contest at Max Bishop Stadium Wednesday afternoon.
Jack Kraft and
Randal Mendez also had hits for the Eagles (0-4 overall). Through four games, Kraft and Mendez lead Coppin State with six hits each. Going back to last season, Kraft has hit in six straight games and reached base in nine consecutive contests. He has 94 career hits. Meanwhile, Mendez continued his torrid start to the season with a two-out first inning single. He has hit in every game this season for Coppin State.
Colin Dower was involved in a pair of nice plays for Coppin State early in the game. He helped start a beautiful 4-6-3 double play to end the bottom of the first inning. Dower, then delivered a sacrifice fly to score Calvin in the top of the second inning with the first run of the game. Calvin led off the second inning with an infield single.
In two career games against Navy, Calvin has produced four hits. Both of Calvin's career multi-hit games have been against Navy.
Coppin State pitchers
Jhar Devilme, Yayha Muhammed and
Jesse Kraft combined for eight strikeouts.
Coppin State will return to action next Wednesday, March 4 when it plays its home opener against UMBC at Joe Cannon Stadium at 2:00 p.m. The Eagles scheduled weekend series against Morehead State was cancelled because of cold and inclement weather expected in the Morehead (Ky.) area this weekend.
