JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Coppin State's
Jeffrey Fitch, Jack Kraft,
Randal Mendez and Alex Brown all had hits in each game of a doubleheader setback to Jacksonville in its season-opening series at Sessions Stadium Saturday afternoon.
All four players mentioned above along with
Bryant Miranda all singled during a 16-0 defeat in the first game against the Dolphins. However, the Eagles found their groove at the plate in the nightcap, pounding out 10 hits in an 8-4 loss.
Mendez led the Eagles (0-2 overall) with three hits, including a leadoff double in the second inning of the second game. He also contributed a pair of RBI singles in the sixth and seventh innings. It was Mendez's second career three-hit performance. Kraft and
Colin Dower also had a pair of hits each for Coppin State.
Fitch started a two-run sixth-inning rally with a double leading off the inning. In the seventh inning,
George Dragon recorded his first Coppin State RBI with a single that scored Dower.
The Eagles and Dolphins conclude the weekend set Sunday with a nine-inning single game starting at 1:00 p.m.
