CHESAPEAKE, Va. -- The Coppin State bowling notched a victory at the Hampton Roads Collegiate Bowling Invitational at AMF Lanes by defeating Saint Peter's University 4-3 in a Baker match.

Overall during the weekend, the Eagles went 1-8 in six traditional matches and three Baker matches. Coppin State finished with a 4,433 total pinfall in traditional matches during the weekend tournament.

Sophomore
Jasmine Newman again led Coppin State in total pinfall as she finished with 1,034 total pinfall and started all of the traditional matches. Senior
Kristen Sharpe bowled a 200 game against Morgan State. It was her eighth career 200 game. She averaged a 141.3 pinfall during the tournament.

Shawdae Frederick and sophomore
Erica Monk each established the first of many career highs over the weekend. Frederick bowled 131 against Bowie State. Monk led the Lady Eagles against Hampton with a 167.

The Eagles bowled their highest tournament Baker match with 170 against Morgan State in winning the fourth game of the best-of-seven match. After dropping the first two games to Morgan State, Coppin State won three straight highlighted by the close 170-167 decision in the fourth game.

"In the third game, we got a strike from Jasmine in the ninth frame followed by a strike from Kristen on her first ball in the 10th frame that gave us the edge," Coppin State head coach
Shaunita Middleton said. "In the fourth game we went in with momentum from the win and started off with a double from Shelby and Shawdae and the rest of the team followed suit."
