Box Score WASHINGTON – The Coppin State volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Howard University Sunday afternoon in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) at Burr Gymnasium. In extending its winning streak to five, Howard claimed the match by scores of 25-19, 25-17, 25-17.
Despite the setback, the goals still remain unchanged for Coppin State (7-11 overall, 4-3 MEAC). The Lady Eagles will still be a headache for opponents and a tough out next month when the MEAC Tournament commences in Princess Anne even though they have lost two of their top hitters with season-ending injuries during the journey.
Leading Coppin State were sophomore
Bailee Jackson and freshman
Samantha Polk as they combined for 21 kills. Jackson led the Lady Eagles with 12 kills and a .241 hitting percentage. It was the fifth time this season and second straight contest that Jackson registered double-digit kills in a match. Polk added nine kills for Coppin State.
Cindy Okpegbue led Coppin State with 11 digs while adding eight kills. Glory Rosado finished with 10 digs and
Chelsee Sauni recorded 29 assists.
Howard (10-13, 6-1) flummoxed Coppin State with 18 blocks during the match. Courtney Dalton posted a match-high 13 kills for the Lady Bison.
Coppin State returns to action Friday night when it hosts Norfolk State at 7:00 p.m. It will the Lady Eagles' annual "Dig Pink" match. Also, the Lady Eagles will begin their longest homestand of the season, three matches.
